Yeah, baby yeah! Mojo is back

Title says it all, my paint mojo has found its way back!  And all it took was a couple of new acquisitions.  First group came in a package the other day.

Hmm, wonder what this could be?  Something from across the pond?

It is always fun when you get a package in the mail, it actually happens more often now a days than when I was a kid with the advent of Amazon and online shopping.  But I still get a charge even though I knew this one was coming.  Tim from Diehard sent out the heads up email a week or so ago.  I have to say that Tim and Diehard do a great job with their Kickstarter campaigns.

I went light with this one, I was feeling guilty at the time about all my unpainted lead so I kept the order small.  I added some SF robots and undead.  I definitely feel a SF wave of painting coming on with this group and some remaining space frogs I picked up from an earlier Diehard Kickstarter.

The more important pick up was this little foursome.

I was in a funk and decided to grab some new paints from a local hobby shop.  I have to be honest I loved Citadel paints back in the day but lately I felt that they were a bit over priced.  That and I've had a heck of a time following the new developments in their paint system.

Well that came to an end when the local hobby shop owner suggested that I try the GWS paint app.  What a great suggestion!  It quickly educated me on what I needed to buy.  I haven't used the full base/layer/shade/dry/edge system that Citadel is currently marketing but I really liked my first experience.

With a couple of pots of new paint I had to break out a brush and put down some paint.  I painted up some brass on several of the figures and used the new dry brush paint to do hit some edges and high spots.  Picture isn't that great so more detailed one in a future post when they are further along.  Lets hope this train keeps on rolling.

In between bursts of painting I also did some work on the War Rig for Gaslands/Car Wars/Dark Future adding a few bits and pieces as well as a front plow.  I just need to pick up some diamond tread plate and corrugated plastic card next weekend to wrap it up.  It is getting closer to being ready for paint.

2017 In Review

It appears to be popular to have a year in review post, here is my go at it.

2017 Goals-My biggest goal for 2017 was to simply get back into the hobby.  I felt like I had been lurking/trolling the Oldhammer blogs for far too long and needed to get active.  The easiest was to pick up the paint brush again and start knocking out my ridiculous amount of unpainted lead.  I wasn't nearly as productive as I had wanted to be.  I will take a little bit of the blame but I'll also pass a little bit of the blame on buying a new house and moving.  I have to apologize to Orlygg, when he fell of the blogging horse for awhile due to a house purchase I was silently a little indignant.  I mean whats the big deal, all you did was move.  Yea, it turns out that moving is a very big deal!  I'm not sure what his situation was but I had 22 years of stuff to go through, and I'm fairly confident that my wife and I never threw anything away!  It has literally consumed me for the last 6 months between finding a new house, getting the old house ready to sell, getting everything packed up, moved, and while we are in the new house we aren't anywhere close to getting unpacked.  But I've been hard at work on the new hobby room/man cave!

Productivity wise it looks like I managed to get 32 posts in this year which is close to my weekly/52 posts goal, at least better than 50%!  So I'm pretty psyched with those results.  Painting performance was not as productive but still better than nothing.  I managed to get a few old hammer figures done, particularly a Jes Goodwin Ogre, some of the Oldhammer inspired Eru-Kin mins by Diehard Miniatures, and a few Rogue Trader mins.  I'm very disappointed that I didn't get a chance to partake in Orctober or Deadcember but these were right in the middle of all the house moving.  On a positive note it gives me a goal for 2018.

2018 Goals-  First and foremost, getting the hobby/gaming/man cave set up!  Good news is that I've already done a lot of work on it so the paint should be flying soon!  A shout out to Chico who has inspired me to jump into the WW2/Weird War 2/Konflikt 47 with some Warlord Games and Dust Tactics miniatures.  I also have a large pile of Oldhammer chaos champions to get into.  And lastly some Sci-Fi mins from several companies.  Lets hope that 2018 is productive!

Kicking Butt!

Unfortunately for my wallet I stumbled upon Kickstarter back in early 2016.  It has a been a great source of "new old" mins and a real boon for my miniature collectionIt has also motivated me and kicked my painting back into gear.  While I’ve been somewhat idle blogging wise over the last month I haven’t just been sitting around!  Here are some WIP's of the mins from my first foray into Kickstarter from Diehard Miniatures’ first campaign.

I saw some posts of Tim and company’s miniatures on a couple of different sites and simply had to have some.  I have always been a fan of WHFB Slann and the background of a star empire fallen into more savage times.  I picked up a couple of their frogs-in-space Eru-Kin.

My goal was to paint them up in a NASA white and orange space suit color scheme with a Yellow-Banded Poison Dart Frog pattern.

I don’t know that I stuck to the plan very well and I feel like the color palette got a bit larger than I wanted.  I'm also concerned that if I do the black banding on the exposed skin I'll loose some of the detail.  At this point they will only have a yellow skin tone.

I tried to pull it back and paint over some areas instead of stripping and repainting them.  I’m okay with their progress.

I’m struggling with getting the white to look the way I want.  I’m going to try and do some black lining and see how it turns out.  These guys are far from done but I hope to wrap them up well before the figures from the Diehard Kickstarter 2 arrive!

Wahoo I'm a Diehard!

Came home the other day to a parcel on the porch all the way across the pond from Jolly Ole England!  My first thought was what the heck is this?  I don’t think I ordered anything from England?  Was I unbeknownst to me sleep buying mins off eBay?  Then once I looked at the package more closely I realized it was the Diehard Miniatures Kickstarter!  I enthusiastically ripped into the box like a youngster on Christmas day, well actually I cut it open very neatly but you get the gist of my excitement!

If scoring my favorite Chaos Warrior on eBay wasn’t enough to get me motivated, this certainly will!  I'm off to get them cleaned up, greenstuff any gaps and prep for painting.  I'll have to do some exotic frog research for the Slannesque Eru-Kin mins.
