WIP Quick Paint Update

Quick WIP photos of some recent painting.  First up is the Skragg c23 ogre miniature. Orlygg had a post about plate mail where he lamented about its rather boring qualities.  It inspired me to try something different.  I’ve been bitten by a battleship grey bug as of late.  Not sure why, maybe it was that grey Hellcat Dodge Challenger I drooled over the last time I got an oil change on my Jeep.  Whatever the reason I saw this as an opportunity to use the color and try a different approach to the plate mail on this guy.  The easy path would have been to just drybrush some metallic paints on him when he was primed up in black.  Here is where I’m at so far.

Not too bad as I avoid breaking my arm while patting myself on the back!  Still have some metal work to do and a few odd detail items.

Next up is an old Rogue Trader era Inquisitor in power armor.  I have no idea why I bought this figure, maybe I was sleep shopping on eBay.  I figured I had him might as well put paint to it and here are the results.

Nothing fancy just a clean paint scheme.

Paint at Last

My apologies for lack of posting.  I’ve been struggling with Blogger and my internet connection and have been unable to get pictures to upload.  Not sure what the issue was but things just weren’t playing nicely with each other.  So here is a long delayed post about my dive back into painting with some Dark Future/Car Wars miniatures:

Well after weeks if not months of procrastination it has finally happened, paint at last!  Here is my very modest foray back into painting, it is just a start but better movement than nothing.  I have reached the very harsh reality that age is catching up with me, or at least my eyesight!  Wow it was a major pain trying to paint with my bifocals on.  I’ll have to try some alternatives to them, either a jewelers visor or maybe reading glasses.  I started off with the Dark Future/Car Wars vehicles. I figured it was a good way to get my feet wet without botching a job that I would regret.  If my skills are not up to snuff yet then worst case they get turned into rough Mad Max style road warrior vehicles.

This group shot doesn’t show much detail but gives you a rough look at how far I’ve progressed.

Poor lighting doesn't allow much interior detail but seats have basic brown and black detailing.  Even more discouraging is that once I put the windshield back in you really can’t see any of the interior detail!  As you can see form this shot, man what a letdown!

To be honest I’m not sure that in the future I will even bother with painting the interior as you can see from these two shots you cannot see much!  They are 95%+ done with some work to do on the metal highlights on weapons and then some weathering and muddling.  I went through my metallic paints and unfortunately not a one of them was usable so off to the hobbyshop I go to get some fresh updates.  Any suggestions on good paints is greatly appreciated.

Wow! Reality is a harsh mistress!

Well I have come to the hard realization that I don’t have as much time to paint as I had originally anticipated nearly a year ago. That along with some plain old procrastination has lead me to being 9 months off the paint schedule that I had originally intended to follow and contributed to a poor effort in posting.  I even told myself as a New Year's resolution that I would post something at least once a week, well you can see how that turned out!  I think I have a handle on work so that should be some relief and I have accomplished a few other items that will help me get moving with a jump back into the hobby.  So fingers crossed you should see more activity here and not just my babbling but some actual painting to boot!  Enjoy.

Wrap It Up c23 Ogres and MM40 Marauder Trolls

I've done some touch up work on the ogres and I'm getting their bases ready.  I decided to throw theses two beauties into the first group. The last two of my complete set of Marauder Trolls.  In my humble opinion the best of all the slots-base era trolls.  They were as close as the Ogres to being complete.  And yes that is indeed the fabled pink troll with purple polka dots of legend.  Not sure if I imagined the story of the drunk dwarf stumbling into the tavern ranting about running into a pink troll with purple polka dots or if that was actually a bit of Warhammer fiction that I read someplace but I thought it would be humorous.  Seems to fit in with the mentality of the Oldhammer era.  A few final adjustments and base work then off to the clear coating.

Decisions, decisions

Well after much internal debate, at least I don’t think I was talking out loud, I landed on the following: I'm going to do a Wrap It Up project and a New Stuff project. The Wrap It Up will be something that has just lingered around my painting desk left partially finished.  The New Stuff will be something starting from scratch.  Let the beatings, I mean fun begin.

 

Wrap It Up

Well these poor bastiches have been sitting for a while now and need to be wrapped up so they can join their brethren.  These two C23 Jes G Ogres are late additions to the collection.  Instead of re-painting them I simply enhanced their original paint jobs.  The Samurai Ogre got a white face and a paint up to look like Tujiro the Kabuki Vampire from Grendel Comic fame and a touch up of some other areas.  The other one is the Bounty Hunter figure, it was just a touch up and repaints of a few detailed areas.  So these are the first guys up.  Should be a quick project.  Then onto the trolls and demons in the background, but more on them when it's their turn.

 

New project!

I had to go Dark Future/Car Wars after catching the latest Mad Max movie.  I loved the original and have been stealing Hotwheels from my sons for over two decade now so it is about time to do something with them.  I have also sporadically been attending the Origins Game Fair for the last 8 to 10 years and have always made it a point to stop by the Iron Winds booth which is the Ral Partha company of my childhood.  As a side note living here in Ohio I was able to visit them in my early 20s and actually got to meet Julie Guthrie and Tom Meier while I was down there.  What a great group of people!  But I digress, I always hit their booth because they typically have loose bit and pieces from their Battletech line of mins for sale.  So I have tons of little turrets and missile pods and whatnot that I horded for the day I started converting Hotwheels!  Oh what a day, what a lovely day!
